I always find Hope and Encouragement in the book of David Psalms in Psalm 86:6-9 helps in troubled times knowing that we truly have a God that brings us through all sorts of troubled waters. I hope this reminds us all in who is above all.....God Bless, Wayne and Caroline Reitz

6Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer;
And give heed to the voice of my supplications!
7In the day of my trouble I shall call upon You,For You will answer me.
8There is no one like You among the gods, O Lord, Nor are there any works (P)like Yours.
9All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O Lord, And they shall glorify Your name.

Daily Update from yesterday, 9/26/07

I visited Gary at the hopsital last evening. His color looked good and his vitals (heart rate, blood pressure etc.) were normal. Gary is breathing partially on his own and partially on a respirator, with the hope that he wil be able to breath fully on his own soon. Until then, he remains sedated.

The nurse explained everything to us in great detail and basically, if he were breathing 100% on his own, he would be out of the ICU and in a regular room.

He continues to run a fever, with his temperature near normal in the morning but increasing throughout the day. It may be an infection that they haven't found yet OR it may be tied to pneumonia, which he has a slight case of.

Yesterday he woke up for just a few moments, but nodded his head "no" when asked if he was in pain. Then he went back to sleep.

More info as we have it.

Daily update for September 27, 2007

This was enterted by Jeff and prepared by Lynn:

Thanks to everyone for your concern, love and thoughtfulness. I have shared many of the postings with Gary, continuing to read them to him even though he is asleep. I can tell they are helping as his vital signs remain good.

Some positive news is that Gary is taking a reduced percentage of oxygen from the respirator than he was the previous day and the doctors are pleased with that. He is, however, breathing about 50% by himself and 50% from the respirator, which has been the case for the past few days.

Please contiunue to keep sharing your thoughts and prayers on this blog. It means a lot to me, to Gary, to our family and to everyone at SWK.

Knowing just how much you're thinking of and praying for Gary is very meaningful.

Jeff and/or I will continue with these daily updates.

With love,
Lynn

Afternoon update - September 28, 2007

Lynn wanted me to share this good news with all of you....

The oxygen that Gary requires from the respirator was reduced from 70% to 60% this morning (we already told you this) and just now it was further reduced to 55%.

The really good news is that Gary has been awake enough to respond to questions by shaking his head yes or no AND his eyes are open! He answered that he is NOT in any pain!

Lynn sounded VERY HAPPY when she just told me this great news!

Daily report for September 29, 2007

Gary is slightly better this morning. The doctors are reducing both his pain medication and the dose of the medicine that makes him sleep. Although he is awake only sporadically, he is still responsive to questions, which is great. The doctors are also hoping to reduce his % of oxygen from the respirator again today. His fever still occurs at nighttime, and the doctors continue to search for its cause.

Daily Report for September 30, 2007

Hi Everyone!

Lynn reports that Gary is now breathing 2/3 on his own and relying on the respirator for the balance. This is a big improvement. Further, the oxygen level from the respirator has been lowered again, now down to 40%.

Gary has been awake for much of the day, and although seemingly frustrated that he cannot speak because of the tube in his mouth, he was "very responsive" to questions by shaking or nodding his head.

Although Gary still has some fever, a scan of his pancreas yesterday was negative (good news).

There was generally a sense from everyone today that Gary is making good improvement every day.

Keep those blog posts coming!

-Jeff

I've been busy holding down the fort at SWK, communicating with the TEAM and letting your many friends and supporters know that you're getting better each day. I was able to visit you twice at the hospital, and I personally saw a marked improvement in your condition between visits. I hope that you are breathing on your own (not being able to talk must be especially frustrating!) and in a private room on my next trip to the hospital!

Not having you around the office has meant fewer laughs (yes, sometimes at your expense), a strange, eerie quiet (let's face it - when you're around, we just don't have much of that now, do we?) and a lonlier existence for me, as I miss our many conversations about how we can make SWK more efficient, support our clients better and strategize and plan for SWK's future. I guess that all adds up to me telling you that I really miss your presence and your friendship. You are an integral part of both SWK and of my day-to-day business life, and I look forward to having you back in your office down the hall very soon!

Love,

Daily Report from October 1, 2007

Donna and Lynn report that Gary really perked up yesterday when his childhood friends from Guest Drive in Marlboro came to visit: Ali, Sybil and Irv Cimring. It made him very happy!

Gary is now more alert than he has been during his stay in the ICU and today the doctors hope to find the source of his fever, suspected to be an infection near his kidney.
His vital signs remain very good!

All in all, Gary is doing consistently better!

It is a good day for Gary...

I just caught up on all of the new comments this morning and wanted to let everyone know that Gary is now breathing on his own, although still attached to the machine. Doctors expect to be able to extabate him today or tomorrow, which is the best news during these past two weeks.

Gary is now getting more nourishment (no Peter Luger's just yet) and is handling it well.

Our family is extremely grateful to all of you. The power of positive thinking is truly reaping a wonderful result.

I will be heading to the hospital a little later today and hope to be able to report more improvement tomorrow.

Until then...love to everyone and keep up the good thoughts.

Gary,
It has surely been a long time, too long in fact, since we have spoken. I want you to know that your are thought of often. When I heard of your illness, I had this sick feeling inside. I want you to know that I and the rest of my family are praying for your speedy recovery. Just remember the days we used to have: sitting on my porch in Marlboro saying how we would be closer than our sisters, bachelor parties, wedding toasts, baby namings, newborn visits to Charlotte and so many more. If it takes something like this to get us back together again, so be it. Just take care and get better. I look forward to re-connecting.

Love,
Scott, Carolyn and kids

Good Sunday Morning to Everyone -

It is truly the best Sunday morning our family has had in many weeks. Gary has been moved out of ICU into a step down floor. This floor has many medical professionals that are taking good care of Gary.

Gary is free of feeding and breathing assistance, well on his way to the goal of leaving the hospital. I took Sydney and Perry to see Gary yesterday, which was great for everyone.

You have all helped our family through this ordeal and you will remain in our hearts for ever. I truly believe in the powers of your good thoughts and prayers.

Thank you and love to all,

Lynn, Sydney and Perry
